Shakespeare brought back the lovable lout from the Henry IV plays, Sir John Falstaff, to turn the country town of Windsor on its ear. But what Sir John and his nefarious cohorts, Bardolph, Pistol and Nym fail to realize is that the women of Windsor are not so easily duped, and in fact have some wily tricks of their own to play on the newly arrived lechers.

A rather light cartoon of a play, Merry Wives was set in a present time that looked as if it might have been drawn by Dr. Suess, centering around the giant tree mentioned in the play as Herne's Oak. The cast featured perhaps
the thinnest actor ever to play John Falstaff, Dennis Hoerner, who wore enough padding and makeup to more than double his body size and age... in an outdoor venue ... during one of the hottest PA summers on record ... with no complaints ... what a guy!
