J. Clark Nicholson
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Mr. Nicholson is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Gamut Theatre
Group. Before settling in the Harrisburg area, Clark performed with several theatre companies in the southeast U.S., including The Warehouse Theatre, The Rolling Rep Theatre, Southeastern Theatrical Productions and also the longest running production in North America, The Lost Colony Outdoor Drama.
He has directed, designed and performed many diverse roles, including the title role in Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival's production of Hamlet, Macduff in Macbeth, Caliban and Prospero in two productions of The Tempest, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet and the title role in Titus Andronicus. He has directed over 75 of Gamut's mainstage children's productions, and the HSF productions of Love's Labour's Lost, The Comedy of Errors, A Company of Wayward Saints, King Lear, Henry IV Parts I & II, The Glass Menagerie, Henry Rathvon's The Oracle, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Winter's Tale, An Evening of Chekhov Comedy, Othello, The Lion in Winter, King John, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, and As You Like It .
Clark is a proud member of Theatre Communications Group and the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America, which afforded him the honor of representing Harrisburg at various conferences in the US, Mexico, and Canada as well as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford upon Avon and at the Globe Theatre in London. Despite all of this, his mother still thinks that he is just going through "a phase."
