Internships

Learn the business and enjoy the fun of professional theatre! Summer and School-year internships are available for college and high school students. During their internship, students may have the opportunity to participate in set construction, fundraising, stage management, costuming and performance. Anyone with a serious interest in theatre is encouraged to inquire.

Summer internships with Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival's Free Shakespeare in the Park are a fabulous way to get valuable theatre experience. Interns work in many facets of production, learning the ropes of professional outdoor theatre. Course credit may be available through arrangement with your school.

GUIDELINES

Gamut Theatre Group (GTG) is a non-profit, professional regional theatre and is the combined theatre company of Popcorn Hat Players Children’s Theatre and Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival. GTG performs at Gamut Classic Theatre, our resident theatre location in Strawberry Square, downtown Harrisburg that features a unique, three-quarter thrust stage and three levels of scaffolding in an intimate artistic atmosphere. In addition, the company also tours and teaches classes and camps.

There are seven core company members at The Gamut that are employed year-round. Additional professional designers, directors and actors are hired for mainstage shows as needed by the theatre, and high school and college interns are used during the school year, as well as the summer. We highly recommend that you research our theatre before applying for an internship. Preference is given to those who are familiar with our work and have a basic knowledge of our mission and activities.

Currently we cannot offer housing for internships, so all interns need to live within a commuting radius of Harrisburg, PA.

ACTING/TECH INTERNSHIPS – STIPEND PAY

There are a few paid acting internships available at Gamut Theatre. Acting Interns are employed from the third week of May through the end of August. They act in Popcorn Hat shows both in-house and on tour and assist with teaching theatre camps. They help backstage for FREE SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK and help manage KIDSFEST over the Memorial Day weekend.

In addition, Acting Interns also help in the office or in areas of construction (scenery, costumes and props) as needed. The schedule is arranged so that the Intern could possibly get a second job to earn extra money. Usually educational credit can be obtained in exchange for the student’s experience at Gamut Theatre.

Acting Interns are paid a stipend of $80-$100 per week and receive a letter of recommendation and professional credit for their resumes.
